  23. One thing I might note here is that at least some paging services have
  24. both DTMF and TAP terminals, and as long as the "payload" of the TAP
  25. block contains only digits (no alphabetic, special, or other
  26. characters, with the possible exception of "-"), numeric pagers can
  27. receive the message just fine.  This is true of Arch in the Buffalo,
  28. NY, USA area, and quite possibly everywhere Arch operates.

  30. Also, many paging services, including Arch, have Web-to-pager and
  31. email-to-pager gateways.  For example, the one for my pager is
  32. pager-number-including-areacode@epage.arch.com.  Since some of these
  33. send text (they extract the From: and Subject: lines from the email
  34. message), they are unsuitable for number-only pagers.  (You usually
  35. get a page, but the screen is blank when you try to read the page.)
